Although there are five types of benefits available, we handle disability benefits, more commonly known as Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits. These benefits are available to persons who have usually work five of the last ten years and are disabled.

SHOULD I APPLY SSDI EVEN THOUGH I WAS INVOLVED IN A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT OR IF I’M RECEIVING WORKERS’ COMPENSATION BENEFITS?

Yes. If you believe you will be out of work for over one year, absolutely. The process takes so long that it’s better to start early. You can always withdraw your application if your status changes. In Rhode Island and Massachusetts your social security benefit would be reduce by any payments of workers’ compensation benefits.

HOW DO I START THE PROCESS?

That’s easy. Call your local Social Security Administration Branch and they will schedule a telephone interview with you.
